What Kind of God

Act 17:23 “For as I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you.”

When Apostle Paul was on a mission to the ancient Athens, he found people worshiping the Unknown God. The Bible reveals what kind of God He is, the Lord of the universe. God is the greatest mystery,  not by human discovery can we know God. It is only by revelation as it is written in the Bible can we know God. Jesus Christ came into the world to reveal God.

Christianity is neither superstition nor science. Superstition is based on false and unfounded beliefs and fears. Science is limited by human and empirical and tentative knowledge at a time and place. Christianity is the revealed religion. Only God makes revelation of the ultimate truth and wisdom. Revelation cannot be achieved by human discovery or wisdom. Christianity is the revelation of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was God who became Man to reveal God and spiritual things to human beings.

1. The Church of Jesus Christ is the pillar of truth.

2. The Roman Catholic Church is historically false, full of heresies and wrong doctrines and superstitions.

3. Science cannot provide ultimate truth and wisdom because science at best is human tentative knowledge at a given time and place.

4. Human philosophies cannot provide ultimate truth and wisdom because they are limited human thoughts confined to limited intelligence.

5. All religions except Christianity are man-made.

6. Christianity – the revealed religion – explains and exalts the Supreme Being, Wisdom and Truth.

7. Neither science nor religion can save mankind.

8. Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life – outside of Christ there is no salvation.

9. The wisdom of the living is to know the Most High rules the universe and over the realm of mankind.

10. It is of infinite truth and wisdom that human beings must submit themselves humbly to the Will of God.

1.    The God of Israel.

Mat 15:31,  “So the crowd marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.”

Note: Because of Abraham, the father of Israel, Gentile believers receive the blessing of salvation and become children of God by faith through Jesus Christ. For that reason, Christians pray and support the state of Israel.

2.    The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Mat 22:32, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

3.    The God of the living.

Mar 12:27, “He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.”

Note: There are so many peoples who are greatly mistaken about God.

4.    The Lord God of Israel.

Luk 1:68, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for He has visited and redeemed His people.”

5.    The Lord God.

Luk 1:32, “He (Christ) will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.”

6.    The God of our fathers.

Act 5:30, “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.”

Note: The God of our fathers means the God of Jewish fathers like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

7.    The God of Glory.

Act 7:2, “And Stephen replied, Men, brothers, and fathers, listen! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran.”

8.    The Most High God.

Act 16:17,  “She followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the Most High God, which show to us the way of salvation.”

9.    The God of Hope.

Rom 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Note: When Christ was born, hope was born. The God of Hope is the God of all believers.

10.  The God of Peace.

Rom 16:20, “And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”

Note: Satan is the author of conflicts and wars. Warmongers and terrorists are the children of the devil.

11.  The God of All Consolation.

2 Cr 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all consolation.”

12.  The God of All Grace.

1 Pe 5:10,  “But may the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered for a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.”

Note: Grace is the unmerited favor of God. He is the God of All Grace to all believers in Christ.

13.  The God of Love and Peace.

2 Cr 13:11, “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect. Be of good comfort. Be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.”

Note: A man cannot say he believes in God and engages in hatred and war.

14.  The Living God.

Mat 16:16, “And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Note: All idols are dead. Why would the leader of Taiwan who claims to be a Christian and yet he worships idols in public? Most likely he wants to please those voters who are idol worshippers. The Bible makes it clear, idolaters cannot enter the Kingdom of God.  I would not trade heaven for the whole world, much less for an insignificant island.

15.  The Eternal God.

Rom 16:26, “But now is revealed by the prophetic Scriptures, according to the commandment of the eternal God, made known to all nations for obedience to the faith.”

Deu 33:27, “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will thrust out the enemy from before you and will say, Destroy them!”

Note: God is eternal because He has no beginning and no ending. God does not have father or mother. God is Self-Existent, forever and ever.

16.  The Incorruptible God.

Rom 1:23, “And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.”

17.  The Invisible God.

Col 1:15, “He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.”

Note: God is invisible because He is Spirit. God manifested Himself some 2,000 years ago in Jesus Christ. That is called the Incarnation.

18.  The Living and True God.

1 Th 1:9, “For they themselves declare to us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.”

19.  The Almighty God.

Gen 17:1, “And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God; walk before Me and be upright.”

20.  The Only Wise God.

Jud 1:25,  “To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, before all time, both now and forever. Amen.” Cf. 1 Ti 1:17.

Note: If a man thinks he is wise, think again. Does anyone know what is going to happen tomorrow? Does anyone know the date of his death?

21.  The Great God.

Tts 2:13, “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.”

22.  The True God.

1 Jo 5:20,  “And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, so that we may know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”

23.  The Faithful God.

Deu 7:9, “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations.”

24.  The Mighty God.

Isa 9:6, “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be on His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”

25.  The Lord God Omnipotent.

Rev 19:6, “Then I heard that resembling the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters, and like the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns.”

26.  The Lord God Almighty.

Rev 21:22, “But I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.”

27.  The God of the Earth.

Rev 11:4, “These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.”

28.  The God of Heaven.

Rev 11:13, “In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand men were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.”

29.  The Lord God of Heaven.

Ezr 1:2, “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and He has appointed me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah.”

30.  The God of my Salvation.

Psa 25:5, “Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You do I wait all the day.”

Note: Salvation belongs to God and comes from God.

31.  The God of my Strength.

Psa 43:2, “For You are the God of my strength; why do you cast me off? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”

32.  The God of my Mercy.

Psa 59:10, “The God of my mercy shall come to meet me; God shall let me see my desire on my enemies.”

33.  The God of Truth.

Isa 65:16, “So that he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he who swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from my eyes.”

Note: God is true, and every man a liar. The devil is the father of all lies. Watch out for liars - political liars, financial liars, religious liars, legal liars, media liars, and all kinds of liar.

34.  The Lord God of Recompense.

Jer 51:56, “Because the destroyer has come against her, against Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken; for the Lord God of recompense shall surely repay.”

Note: The God of the Bible is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe, the Holy and Righteous God who sent His Only Son Jesus Christ to the world to save mankind. To those who believe and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, salvation and eternal life. To those who reject Jesus Christ, hell and eternal punishment.
