Christian are not lonely, because on earth God is with them. The Holy Spirit lives in them. In Heaven and in eternity God is with His children.
Recently I met an old man holding a dog in his arms on his chest. I said to him, why do you raise a dog? A dog costs money, it would be better you use the money to buy vitamins, etc. to keep you healthy. He rocked his head and said no, no, no; because he kept the dog for companionship. How sad and tragic is the human civilization that a man needs a dog to keep company. In American alienated society, the desperation is silent and solemn. If you are a man, you do not need to be old, you cannot approach and talk to a young woman because she might think you are a playboy or a bad person. If you a young man, you do not want to talk to a young woman who approaches and wants to talk to you because you are afraid she might be a prostitute or a bad woman. Under this social condition, it is very difficult for a young man or woman to find a spouse. YOU CANNOT TALK TO STRANGERS - that is the rule. For this reason, strangers will forever remain strangers because they cannot talk much less communicate with each other. Many times when I saw children alone on the street, I was concerned where their parents are? The children would not answer me because they are not supposed to talk to strangers. If you are a pretty and successful woman, you will have a harder time to find a suitable mate to meet your standard requirement. If you are an educated and successful man, you will have a hard time to find a suitable mate to meet your standard. You become a suspect whenever you approach some woman you may be interested. In a society where crime rate is very high, you are worried to become a victim so much so that you avoid all strangers good or bad. In a car-driven society, some funny woman once said to me that she can only pick up the license plate of the man who is driving in front of her. If you are married and your spouse has died, a devastating future is waiting for you. If you are old, sick, poor and lonely - that may be a living hell. Long ago I came to the conclusion by personal observations that America may be the paradise for the young and wealthy and healthy, but a graveyard for the old and poor and ill and lonely. The American society is a vast sea of alienation where every man and woman is an island. The gap is widening with the passage of time.
Loneliness is both an individual matter and a collective problem. This sounds like a contradiction. It simply means, loneliness strikes at an individual, and humanity as a group also suffers loneliness. A human being can be lonely in every stage of life. You do not need to get old to be lonely. Everyone is born alone and dies alone. Abandoned children are lonely. Struggling youths are lonely; a successful man is also lonely. Men and women who are discriminated and mistreated by society are lonely. Old people suffer empty nest syndrome. A famous and beautiful actress can be lonely because she cannot find a qualified or suitable mate. A great soul is always lonely because he is engaging in the battle against evil forces and people around do not understand him and cannot share his burden.
In America the greatest evil any man or woman can face is to be old, poor, ill and lonely at the same time. There is nothing under the sun worse than that. Some think if you have children, the old age problem is basically solved. Not so, many white old men told me that their children never visited them. If your children are not filial, having children is no better than having none. In China, old folks have to sue their children for neglect. When I first went to China in 1985 hired by the Ministry of Education as a professor, Chinese people then had high moral standard and they were very honest. After exposure to American corrupt and greedy capitalism, Chinese morality has gone down ever since. The American cultural values of money, power and sex have a negative and evil influence on the whole world.
1. The Nature of Loneliness.
Gen 2:18,“Then the LORD God said：It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”
Note: The Hebrew word for alone is bad which means being alone, apart from anyone, by oneself, being separated; - it occurs 196 times in the Old Testament. It is bad for a man to be alone. It is not good for a man to be alone; it is not good for a woman to be alone. Of course man was created first, so he was alone. Man is made for woman, and woman is made for man. Probably the hardest thing in life is to find your suitable mate. Suitability is the first requirement for marriage. Men want beautiful women, women want money. There are many beautiful women, who can find a good wife? There are many rich men, who can find a good husband? That is why there are so many divorces. Marriage that is built on sex or money is building on sand, it cannot stand the wind and storm. Blessed is the one who finds his/her spouse. There are many people spending all their lives in looking for their mates, and they have not found them. There are even more married people who suffer loneliness because they sleep in the same bed but having different dreams.
Gen 7:1,“Then the LORD said to Noah: Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time.”
Note: The word ark in Hebrew is tebah which means a chest or coffer; the ship which Noah made was like a chest or coffer; - it occurs 28 times in the Old Testament. Something is most interesting and amazing about the Chinese character for ship. Chinese characters are square. The etymology of the Chinese word "ship" 船, 舟 (big boat) 八 (eight)
口 (mouth). One mouth means one person. So
the Chinese character 船 means in a big boat, there were 8 mouths or 8 persons. Thus ship is written with "boat" on the left, "eight mouths"
on the right. In the big ship there were 8 persons,
one mouth stands for one person. In counting population, you count how many
mouths. It is historically significant because Noah, his wife, their three sons
and three daughters-in-law made up a family of 8 persons who entered the
1 Pe 3:20,“Who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water."
Salvation is a matter of standing alone. You are saved for yourself alone, not for others. Man and woman are saved individually. If you want to know unrighteous people in the world, take a look of the people in charge of Washington, Wall Street and Hollywood. What is the point to be the most powerful and richest people with all pleasures in the world who are liars, killers and commit all kinds of crimes, sins and iniquity and to be sent to Hell for eternal punishment?
1Sa 21:1, “Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came trembling to meet David and said to him: Why are you alone and no one with you?”
Note: Ahimelech the priest came trembling to meet David because he sensed something was strange because David was alone. A great warrior with high position in the kingdom with no one with him did not look normal. There was hardly a step between David and death. David fled for his life and fled from the wicked king Saul who sought his life. When you run for your life, you may run alone. When you are in danger of your life, you are alone. When you are at risk, your friends may not be around you. When your life is at stake, you will hardly find someone whom you can trust. That is the awful reality of life. Late-Life Loneliness is worse than when you are young and lonely. When you are young, you do not need anyone.
2. God is alone.
2Ki 19:15,“Hezekiah prayed before the LORD and said: O LORD, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.”
Note: God stands apart from all, and there is no one to compare with God. God is ONE, there is no other. God is alone, but God is not lonely. The omnipotent and omniscient and omnipresent God is not in need of anything or short of anything. God is Self-Existent and Self-Sufficient from the eternal past to eternal future, time without end, forever and ever. God is not restricted by time and space or anything. God does not need anyone in the absolute sense although He has countless angels to serve Him.
1Ki 8:39,“Then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive and act and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know, for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men.”
Note: God alone knows the hearts of all human beings. There is a Chinese saying: You know the face of man, but not his heart. Before God there is no secret. God knows everything about everyone.
2Ki 19:19,“Now, O LORD our God, I pray, deliver us from his hand that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
Note: By His creation and wonders, all the kingdoms of the earth should know that God alone is God. The most ludicrous and ridiculous are the Japanese officials who glorify and worship their convicted and executed war criminals as “true gods.” The Japanese dead “true gods” need food and fruit. Japanese leaders do not have redeeming virtue because they deny all their war crimes, genocide and atrocities in killing 50 million peoples (35 million Chinese and 15 million Asians) and made hundreds of thousands of Chinese and Korean women sex slaves and committed most inhuman atrocities and brutalities. Unlike Germany, Japan refused to pay war reparations and compensations to the families of victims.
2Ch 6:30, “Then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men.”
Note: God knows all the evil deeds of Japanese aggressors and militarists although its prime minister and officials deny them all and revise history textbooks to fool their own people and the peoples of the world.
3. Life struggle is alone.
Gen 32:24,“Then Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.”
Note: Jacob in the face and fear of the revenge of his brother, wrestled with an angel to get his blessing. You struggle for your life alone, and you wrestle with your problems of your life alone. In a sense you face your life crises alone. No one can face your life crisis for you. You face the crisis of choosing what study to pursue alone. You face the crisis of what career to choose alone. You face the crisis of choosing your mate alone. You face the crisis of growing old and dying alone.
You were born alone, and you will die alone. You paddle the canoe of life alone; no one can paddle for you. There are people who may give your life boat a push when you hit upstream. I thank God there have been a few individuals who have given my boat of life a little push when I encountered big current upstream. What is most important is the Lord is with me from my childbirth until now. I could have died many times had it not for the mercy of God. Even two may die together, each still dies alone. No one can die for you except Jesus Christ who died on cross to save sinners.
4. You suffer in life alone.
Gen 42:38,“But Jacob said: My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he alone is left. If harm should befall him on the journey you are taking, then you will bring my gray hair down to Sheol in sorrow.”
Note: You suffer alone even there are many sympathizers with you. You go down the valley of suffering alone. If you suffer labor pain, no one can suffer with you. If you suffer kidney stone pain, you bear the pain alone. If you are a male Jew, you suffer the pain of circumcision alone.
You suffer unemployment or discrimination alone. What is worse than with gray hair going down to grave in sorrow?
Mat 20:3,“And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the market place.”
Mat 20:6,“And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them: Why have you been standing here idle all day long?”
Note: Only the unemployed knows what it means to be standing idle and standing around alone. In America, you may even suffer additionally financial loss because employment agencies defraud you by giving you false hope or promises when you are desperate. You suffer discrimination and humiliation alone. You suffer heartbreak alone. You suffer disappointment alone. You suffer illness alone, and many have to suffer painful terminal illness alone.
Lev 13:46,“He shall remain unclean all the days during which he has the infection; he is unclean. He shall live alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.”
Note: Infection in Hebrew is nega` which means stroke, plague, disease, mark, plague spot; - it occurs 78 times in the Old Testament. Outside the camp means you are isolated in a humiliated situation alone.
Jdg 11:37,“She said to her father: Let this thing be done for me; let me alone two months, that I may go to the mountains and weep because of my virginity, I and my companions.”
Note: This was a very sad story about Jephthah who made a vow to the LORD. If the Lord would give the sons of Ammon into his hand, he would then offer it up as a burnt offering whatever comes out of the doors of his house to meet him. The Lord gave victory to Jephthah to defeat the sons of Ammon. When Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, behold, his daughter was coming out to meet him with tambourines and with dancing. Now she was his one and only child; besides her he had no son or daughter. Jephthah could not take his word back. The daughter was brave and she asked for two months to go to the mountains and weep with her friends because of her virginity. Virginity in Hebrew is bĕthuwliym which means the state of being a virgin, pure and free from sex; it occurs 10 times in the Old Testament. Virginity is something most precious that a virgin offers to her future husband. In America you even read reports that a ten year old girl gave birth. Children in 10-12 regularly have sexual intercourse. The daughter was remarkable that she had companions who were willing to weep for her and with her for two months in the mountains before her death.
2Ki 4:27,“When she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came near to push her away; but the man of God said: Let her alone, for her soul is troubled within her; and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me.”
Note: When your soul is troubled within you, you are alone. The soul of the Shunammite woman was troubled within her because her son died on her lap and was laid on his bed. Elisha prayed to God; the lad sneezed seven times and the lad opened his eyes. The mother took up her son and went out.
Psa 25:16-17,“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses.”
Note: Lonely in Hebrew is yachiyd which means solitary, forsaken, wretched, desolate; - it occurs 17 times in the Old Testament. Trouble in Hebrew is tsarah which means distress, anguish, tribulation; - it occurs 72 times in the Old Testament. Distress in Hebrew is mĕtsuwqah which means straits, stress; - it occurs 7 times in the Old Testament. Every saint must have cried out to God: Be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Bring me out of my distresses and troubles.
2Sa 17:2,“I will come upon him while he is weary and exhausted and terrify him, so that all the people who are with him will flee. Then I will strike down the king alone.”
1Ki 22:31, “Now the king of Aram had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying: Do not fight with small or great, but with the king of Israel alone.”
Note: Even the king is most vulnerable when alone.
When Jesus Christ suffered on the cross alone, He substituted for sinners.
Mat 27:46, “About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” that is,“MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”
Mar 15:34, “At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” which is translated, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”
Note: Sin is so awful and evil that in a moment of Jesus suffering and bearing the sin of the world as if God had forsaken Him.
5. You bear responsibility alone.
Exd 18:14,“Now when Moses' father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said: What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge and all the people stand about you from morning until evening?”
Exd 18:18,“You will surely wear out, both yourself and these people who are with you, for the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.”
Note: Moses’father-in-law was the originator of the delegation of authority. As the leader of a nation, Moses was unable to bear the task of ruling and judging by himself. Authority can be delegated to individuals who share the same responsibility of governing, although the leader bears the ultimate responsibility. In American government, the three branches of government have all kinds of authority, but no one is responsible for anything, and that is why government can shut down and deficits and debt can reach heaven. While crooks and criminals of healthcare system (doctors, dentists, hospital owners, drug and insurance executives, labs and medical suppliers, etc.) can charge excessively, defraud government and patients with impunity for decades. The American legal system is where small crooks who defraud a few thousand dollars can go to jail while big crooks in Wall Street who loot billions and trillions go free and even get government bailout with bonuses in billions.
Num 11:13-15,“Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they weep before me, saying: Give us meat that we may eat! I alone am not able to carry all this people, because it is too burdensome for me. So if You are going to deal thus with me, please kill me at once, if I have found favor in Your sight, and do not let me see my wretchedness.”
Note: Moses was worrying how to feed so many people. Dictators and bad leaders think how to enrich themselves by taking bread and butter from the people. A corrupt official is the person in whatever position gets rich through bribery or misappropriating public funds or selling influence. Burdensome in Hebrew is kabed which means hard, difficult, heavy, massive; - it occurs 44 times in the Old Testament. Leadership is a heavy burden. The responsibility of a pastor is burdensome. However, there are pastors or preachers of mega-churches who view ministry as a money-making and get-rich opportunity. America is the fertile soil which grows the largest and worst crooks and criminals in the world. An American false prophet who predicted the dates of the end of the world has been discredited. Strangest thing about human nature, no matter how fraudulent false prophets are, there are always people who follow them. Preachers of prosperity gospel get rich by proclaiming a false gospel. Prosperity gospel has bankrupted the Crystal Cathedral and discredited the ministry of Robert Schuller and others. There is a false teacher or petty false prophet in America who claims he can make you rich because he has discovered Biblical Code of Investment to predict the rise or fall of stocks prices. The Bible is the revealed Word of God, not a code of anything. The Bible shows the plan of salvation, nothing to do with a get rich scheme. How many crooks and criminals make money in the name of God, Christ and the Gospel?
Deu 1:12-18,“How can I alone bear the load and burden of you and your strife? Choose wise and discerning and experienced men from your tribes, and I will appoint them as your heads. You answered me and said: The thing which you have said to do is good. So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and experienced men, and appointed them heads over you, leaders of thousands and of hundreds, of fifties and of tens, and officers for your tribes. Then I charged your judges at that time, saying: Hear the cases between your fellow countrymen, and judge righteously between a man and his fellow countryman, or the alien who is with him. You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not fear man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it. I commanded you at that time all the things that you should do.”
Note: Apparently, Moses devised a system of government much better and more effective than American democracy, and a legal system more efficient and just than the American criminal justice system. If American leaders have the wisdom of Moses, America would not be in such a mess and failure.
1Ch 29:1,“Then King David said to the entire assembly: My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is still young and inexperienced and the work is great; for the temple is not for man, but for the LORD God.”
Note: There is much difference between theocracy and democracy. God’s rule is based on truth and justice according to the commandments of God. Democracy is based on the will and wishes of the people. Although American leaders are elected by people, but the system is held hostage by the moneyed and special interests. In actuality, the so-called democracy does not serve the interest of the greatest number of people; it serves only the interest of the 1 percent at the expense of the 99 percent. American democracy not only does not have good results, it has very bad results. This is the kind of democracy that American and Japanese leaders are so proud of and want to promote it to the world. I say, cast this form of democracy to the bottomless pit because it is phony like a two-dollar bill and it enriches the rich and powerful at the expense of the people. God had chosen Solomon alone, although still young and inexperienced, for building the temple of God. Solomon eventually succeeded. After Richard Nixon, American leaders get smaller and smaller, ineffective and incompetent, but great in leading America and the world to the path of war and destruction. They may escape the judgment of the International Court of Justice; they will not escape the judgment of God.
6. You bear the blame alone.
1Sa 25:14-35,“But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal’s wife, saying: Behold, David sent messengers from the wilderness to greet our master, and he scorned them. Yet the men were very good to us, and we were not insulted, nor did we miss anything as long as we went about with them, while we were in the fields. They were a wall to us both by night and by day, all the time we were with them tending the sheep. Now therefore, know and consider what you should do, for evil is plotted against our master and against all his household; and he is such a worthless man that no one can speak to him. Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves of bread and two jugs of wine and five sheep already prepared and five measures of roasted grain and a hundred clusters of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs, and loaded them on donkeys. She said to her young men: Go on before me; behold, I am coming after you. But she did not tell her husband Nabal. It came about as she was riding on her donkey and coming down by the hidden part of the mountain, that behold, David and his men were coming down toward her; so she met them. Now David had said: Surely in vain I have guarded all that this man has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that belonged to him; and he has returned me evil for good. May God do so to the enemies of David, and more also, if by morning I leave as much as one male of any who belong to him. When Abigail saw David, she hurried and dismounted from her donkey, and fell on her face before David and bowed herself to the ground. She fell at his feet and said: On me alone, my lord, be the blame. And please let your maidservant speak to you, and listen to the words of your maidservant. Please do not let my lord pay attention to this worthless man, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name and folly is with him; but I your maidservant did not see the young men of my lord whom you sent. Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, since the LORD has restrained you from shedding blood, and from avenging yourself by your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek evil against my lord, be as Nabal. Now let this gift which your maidservant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who accompany my lord. Please forgive the transgression of your maidservant; for the LORD will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the LORD, and evil will not be found in you all your days. Should anyone rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, then the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the LORD your God; but the lives of your enemies He will sling out as from the hollow of a sling. And when the LORD does for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and appoints you ruler over Israel, this will not cause grief or a troubled heart to my lord, both by having shed blood without cause and by my lord having avenged himself. When the LORD deals well with my lord, then remember your maidservant. Then David said to Abigail: Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me, and blessed be your discernment, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodshed and from avenging myself by my own hand. Nevertheless, as the LORD God of Israel lives, who has restrained me from harming you, unless you had come quickly to meet me, surely there would not have been left to Nabal until the morning light as much as one male. So David received from her hand what she had brought him and said to her: Go up to your house in peace. See, I have listened to you and granted your request.”
Note: Blame in Hebrew is `avon which means guilt of iniquity, fault, mischief, crime; - it occurs 237 times in the Old Testament. The Scriptures cited above tell a most dramatic and dreadful story of possible massive bloodshed, but it was prevented by a wise woman called Abigail the wife of a worthless man called Nabal. Interestingly, Nabal in Hebrew is Nabal which means a fool, impious, ungodly, wicked; - it occurs 22 times in the Old Testament, Abigail in Hebrew is 'Abiygayil which means my father is joy, whose father is exultation; - it occurs 17 times in the Old Testament. Any father who has a daughter like Abigail has joy for sure. The incident was caused by her worthless husband Nabal who had needlessly insulted David and his troops. Abigail was not only wise but humble to bow to the ground and put the blame on her alone. Eloquently and intelligently Abigail reasoned with David as she made a persuasive point that the LORD has restrained David from shedding blood so that when the LORD does for David according to all the good that He has spoken concerning David, and appoints David ruler over Israel, this will not cause grief or a troubled heart to David. Happy is the man who does not have a troubled heart to cause him grief.
As a comparison, America is the most incredible nation on earth, for all the problems created by politicians and lawmakers and officials (huge deficits and highest national debt, foreign wars and interventions, corruption, dollar dropping, widening gap of the rich and poor, injustice, discrimination, failed education, highest cost of fraudulent and predatory healthcare system, flawed legal system, etc., etc. no one is to blame. The three branches of government have all authority but no one is accountable or responsible for anything.
7. You worship God alone.
Exd 22:20,“He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone, shall be utterly destroyed.”
Note: Christianity is more than a religion; it is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You worship God alone. The Taiwanese leader Ma Ying-jeou and the traitor of Taiwan who claim to be Christians also worship idols to please believers of primitive religion in order to win their votes. You cannot worship God and worship idols at the same time. You cannot serve God and serve Mammon at the same time. If you want to worship God, you worship God alone. Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The funniest thing is that white people think as a group that they are Christians because they are white.
Deu 8:3,“He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.”
Note: This is a vital truth: Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by the Word of God. Anyone who rejects or despises the Word of God cannot be a Christian. For that reason Jesus says,
Luk 6:46-49, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Note: American leaders and American people pay lip service to God and Jesus Christ, actually they have foreign gods.
Deu 32:12,“The LORD alone guided him, and there was no foreign god with him.”
Note: The foreign gods of America are money, power and sex. If you want to worship God, first remove all foreign gods.
8. You love alone.
Exd 21:3,“If he comes alone, he shall go out alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall go out with him.”
Exd 21:4,“If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall go out alone.”
Note: God institutes marriage for a man and a woman. There is no third person involved in a marriage. There is no same-sex marriage because it is abdominal to God.
Psa 68:6,“God makes a home for the lonely;
He leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.”
Mat 19:4-6,“And He answered and said: Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said: FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
Note: This is the most ideal and beautiful concept of marriage: man and woman become one flesh as husband and wife. This is the foundation of a happy marriage. Jesus Christ clearly forbids divorce. In America even some who claim to be evangelicals violate the commandment of Christ in divorce and remarry. Apostle Paul further explains the relationship between husband and wife.
Eph 5:22-31,“Wives, subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the Head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to subject to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body. FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.” Note: The Scriptures cited above are the principles of Christian marriage. Some feminists may object to the fact that wife has to subject to her husband. They argue this is not equality. The Bible only teaches one equality: all are sinners before God. God does not make mistake, Adam was created first. Let me tell you the truth: To subject yourself is much easier to love someone. According to the Word of God, man has a more difficult responsibility: Although a wife has to subject herself to her husband as the church is subject to Christ; but a husband has to love his wife as Christ loved the church and died for her. Do you get the message? To love is much more difficult than to obey. How can you abuse or mistreat a person you are willing to die for? So many American women are abused and beaten by their husbands because men treat women as sex objects just as some cultures and religions treat women as private property. Husband and wife love each other alone, no third person may intrude. Even parents and in-laws have no right to interfere in the love relation of a husband and wife.
9. You serve God alone.
Exd 24:2,“Moses alone, however, shall come near to the LORD, but they shall not come near, nor shall the people come up with him.”
Note: God calls individuals to be His servants. His servants are separated from other people. In times past, God called one individual in his generation. For example, for the Exodus God called Moses; and Elijah in times of apostasy. God called Peter to be the Apostle to the Jews, and Paul the Apostle to the Gentiles.
1Sa 7:3,“Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying: If you return to the LORD with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the LORD and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”
Note: To serve God we must direct our hearts to the Lord. Nowadays, many serve God as occupational preachers; and some are worse as fortune seekers. Few had suffered shipwreck and disgrace by thinking they were entitled to riches and luxuries of the world simply because they are preachers or TV evangelists.
1Ki 18:22,“Then Elijah said to the people: I alone am left a prophet of the LORD, but Baal's prophets are 450 men.”
1Ki 19:14,“Then he said: I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
Note: Even the mighty Elijah suffered loneliness. Since we are not prophets, we have no idea what it really means “I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” Among the Apostles, Paul had suffered most for the sake of Christ and the Gospel.
Hbr 11:37-40,“They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.” Note: The Scriptures cited above give a description of how some (men of whom the world was not worthy) who served and suffered for God.
10. You suffer old age or widowhood alone.
Gen 44:20,“We said to my lord: We have an old father and a little child of his old age. Now his brother is dead, so he alone is left of his mother, and his father loves him.”
Note: How unbearable for an old man who lost his wife and his little child of his old age at the same time!
Psa 102:6-7,“I resemble a pelican of the wilderness;
I have become like an owl of the waste places. I lie awake,
I have become like a lonely bird on a housetop.”
Note: The Scriptures cited above tells the terribleness of loneliness for the elderly. When you are young, you run up stairs as fun. When you are old, walking up the stairs is a challenge. Walking up the hill is not fun for the elderly. Shared apartment is difficult even for the young, how much more daunting and difficult for old people living in a shared community. Millions of old people live alone in America. Many old people find a shared-living community to be a failure or a disappointment. Nursing home can be a deadly place of torture. To be old is a long sigh, sorrow and sadness. You do not find birds of feather flock together so much in mankind. Happy is the man or woman who finds what the Lord wants him or her to do even with retirement.
Psa 25:16,“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.”
Note: This must be the constant prayer of an old and lonely person.
Mar 1:35,“And in the morning, a great while before day, He rose and went out to a lonely place, and there He prayed.”
Mar 1:45,“Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to Him from everywhere.”
Mat 14:13,“Now when Jesus heard this, He withdrew from there in a boat to a lonely place apart. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the towns.”
Luk 5:16,“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
Note: Jesus as the Son of Man also experienced loneliness in His ministry on earth.
11. You will die alone.
Exd 14:12,“Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying: Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
Note: Some slavery is worth than death. There are people in the world whose lives are so terrible because of oppression and abject poverty. There is no life worse than living in this world without God and without hope.
Jos 22:20,“Did not Achan the son of Zerah act unfaithfully in the things under the ban, and wrath fall on all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity.”
Note: When a man sins, the whole community may perish. When leaders commit iniquity, a whole nation may suffer. American and Japanese leaders may lead the world to destruction for their aggression and warmongering.
2Sa 13:32,“Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, responded: Do not let my lord suppose they have put to death all the young men, the king's sons, for Amnon alone is dead; because by the intent of Absalom this has been determined since the day that he violated his sister Tamar.”
Note: Those who commit iniquity will perish. American imperialists and Islamic terrorists have committed so much iniquity in the world; they will perish in their iniquity alone.
Jhn 8:21,“Then He said again to them: I go away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.”
Note: The supremacists will die in their sins alone. The militarists will die in their sins alone. The warmongers will die in their sins alone. The terrorists will die in their sins alone. The oppressors will die in their sins alone. The dictators will die in their sins alone. The capitalists will dies in their sins alone. The monopolists will die in their sins alone. The wicked will die in their sins alone. The liars and killers will die in their sins alone. All unbelievers will die in their sins alone.
Rom 2:12,“For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law.”
Rom 6:23,“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Note: No one can escape death, not even the richest and most powerful people. There are three types of death: physical death, spiritual death, and eternal death.
(A). Physical death is the bodily death when soul is separated from the body, this death will eventually happen to every human being.
Hbr 9:27,“And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.”
Note: Death is appointed for all because all have sinned, and the wages of sin is death.
1Ki 14:13,“All Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he alone of Jeroboam's family will come to the grave, because in him something good was found toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.”
(B). Spiritual death is the separation of sinner from God who is living a carnal life without the Holy Spirit. This is the state of all sinners, though physically alive but spiritually dead. For this reason Jesus says,
Mat 8:21-22,“Another of the disciples said to Him: Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said to him: Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead.” The first “dead” refers to those who are spiritually dead; the second “dead” refers to the physically dead.
Eph 2:5-6,“Even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
Note: This explains how a sinner is dead in transgressions, when he is born again which means he is made alive with Christ to begin a spiritual life. It also means those who die in Christ (physical death) will be raised in a spiritual body when Jesus Christ returns to reign with the saints.
(C). Eternal death is the everlasting death in Hell with body and soul.
Mat 10:28,“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell.”
With a resurrected body, unbelievers and the wicked will be destroyed both soul and body in Hell.
Mat 25:46,“These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Note: Eternal punishment because the resurrected body of the wicked can feel pain and will suffer eternal punishment. In contrast, believers will have a part in the first resurrection; the spiritual body will never die again.
Rev 20:6,“Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.” Psa 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
Note: Believers are not afraid to die, for the Lord is with them.
Phl 1:20-23,“According to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better.”
Note: For those to live is Christ and to die is gain. It is far far better to depart and be with Christ.
12. You can find satisfaction alone.
Psa 22:26,“The afflicted will eat and be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will praise the LORD.
Let your heart live forever!”
Note: When God calls people for service, He calls individually. When God calls people for salvation, He calls individually and He saves one by one.
Man’s heart is lonely and empty; money, power and sex cannot fill the vacuum of a human heart. You cannot find meanings in fame, fortune and glory. There is no consolation in things that will pass away. Believe in yourself or others are like relying on a bruised reed, for the power of man is extinguished like a wick.
Jesus Christ says,
Mat 11:28,“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”
Note: All the burdens and worries of the world, have they not made you weary and heavy-laden? Come to Jesus Christ, He will give you rest.
Psa 17:15,“As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness;
I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake.”
Note: The children of God someday will behold the glory of God and be satisfied when Jesus Christ returns to reign with the saints.
Psa 63:5,“My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.”
People who run Washington, Wall Street, and Hollywood your souls will never be satisfied for money, power and sex cannot satisfy your souls. Worst of all, Hell is waiting for you!
Psa 65:4,“How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You to dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.”
Note: Let me bring the good news: you can find rest, satisfaction and peace in Jesus Christ no matter how terrible is the world. I am not a paid preacher; I do not have financial interest whether you believe or not. I testify to you the truthfulness of the Gospel of Christ. Will you find the joy and satisfaction in Jesus Christ? First, you must be saved. How can you be saved? Confess you are a sinner who cannot save yourself, believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and you will be saved. When you are saved the Holy Spirit, who represents Christ on earth, will enter into your heart and lives with you to comfort and guide. You will know the Lord is with you and so you will not be lonely. Jesus says,
Mat 28:20,“Teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”
Note: While in this world, the Lord is with us. When we go to heaven, we are with the Lord. If you have learned and experienced the Lord is with you always, you do not feel loneliness.
13. There will be no loneliness anymore.
Rev 21:1-7,“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying: Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away. And He who sits on the throne said: Behold, I am making all things new. And He said: Write, for these words are faithful and true. Then He said to me: It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.”
Note: This is it! The Holy City, New Jerusalem, where God will live among men, the sons of God. There will be no longer death, tear, sorrow, mourning, crying, pain or loneliness. This is the land I am heading, it is my eternal home. My kingdom is not of this world.
In 1976 I conceived and developed a Theory of Good Society, please see
The Theory of Good Society. Scandinavia (especially Denmark, Sweden and Norway) was the nations which came close to being a Good Society than any nation on earth. I have a great sense of loss and sense of regret that the Good Society has been botched by stupid government immigration policy and others. I am afraid no other country in the world can come close to what Scandinavia has achieved. I am afraid my vision of a Good Society will be like a mirage. I feel lonely if I am with people I don’t like, the uncivilized and the undesirable. I never enjoyed a party of the rich or poor, the powerful or the ordinary. In the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, I will like every company I will have, be it Abraham, Joseph, David, Paul, John, or Stephen and the mighty angels. I believe the place that Jesus Christ promised to prepare for His followers is done. It is done. The Sun of Righteousness will shine upon all saints, there will be no need of sun or moon because there will be no night.
There will be no more pollution, imperialism, terrorism, capitalism, militarism, crisis, disaster, aggression, exploitation, discrimination, oppression, war, politician, banker, lawyer, doctor, crook, criminal, hospital, pharmacy, hunger, toilet, gun, violence, garbage, graffiti, heat, cold, disease, noise, and fear. In the eternal Kingdom of Christ, even faith and hope will pass away because they are all realized and fulfilled. There will be truth and love forever. Do you want to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven? All may come and no one is rejected or excluded. All you need to do is to confess you are a sinner and cannot save yourself, and believe with all your heart in Jesus Christ who has died for you and rose again as your Lord and Savior and you will be saved. If you are saved, Heaven, the Paradise of God, is yours without money or merit. It is the gift of God by grace and through faith in Jesus Christ.
Would you come to believe in Christ now? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You will never be lonely again. In the Holy City, you will never grow old but forever young because the children of God will live and reign with Christ in power and glory forever and ever.
